Four Reasons Naturally Curly Hair Should Be Cut Dry.

A lot of people ask,  "why do you cut curly hair dry and not wet?"  My answer is, "why wouldn't you?" There are several benefits to cutting hair dry and  in its naturally curly state.  Bellow you'll find four reasons to cut curly hair dry.

You don't wear your hair wet.

You don't wear your hair wet you wear your hair dry.  As most curly girls know  curly hair changes drastically as it drys.

You and your stylist can see the bigger picture.

We can literally see the shape unfold in front of us.  It gives you the ability to watch in the mirror and give feedback in real time.   You'll have more peace of mind watching the haircut unfold right in front of you.

No surprises!

Have you ever had a wet cut?  You say just a trim and after it drys is seems as if you've lost inches!  Cutting dry helps eliminate the dreaded shrinkage factor.

Every curl on your head is different.

Every curl on your head is unique and needs to be treated so.  One curl may stretch up to 6 inches when wet and the other maybe 3 to 4 inches.  This means when the hair drys those two curls could be significantly different in length. Leaving you with a very uneven cut once the hair drys.
Cutting curly hair wet just leaves to much room for error.  It's unpredictable and we can't be sure of what we will get when the hair drys. Cutting curly hair wet is like cutting hair in the dark with a blindfold on.....

Never skip or rush through conditioning your curly hair. It's important to condition your hair with a silicone free botanically derived conditioner. Add conditioner to soaking wet hair. Using your fingers, take small section de tangling each one before moving on to the next, until all of your hair is completely saturated with conditioner. Rinse lightly or thoroughly depending on your styling routine. Remember this is the basis for a great hassle free style! DON'T skimp on this step of your beauty regimine! You and your hair will thank you!

DO

  • Do cleanse condition and style your hair curly the day of your appointment. Your hair will be cut and/or colored in its natural state. It is important for us to be able to see your hair's natural curl pattern in order to achieve optimal results.

  • Do have your hair thoroughly dry. Please give your hair plenty of time to dry before your appointment. So we don't have to spend the time allotted for cutting sitting under the hood dryer or diffusing.

  • Do come with an open mind ready to accept and love your hair in all it's natural glory!

DON'T

  • Don't arrive with a ponytail, bun, twist out, roller-set, perm-rod set, curl-former, ETC. or any style that stretches or changes your hair's natural curl pattern. Even if your hair isn't in the best of shape, we needs to see YOUR real natural hair in order to provide the best results and service to you.
  • Don't brush, pick or comb your hair out the day of your service.(or on that note ever!)

  • Don't style your hair with products that are excessively sticky or greasy/oily for example, shea butter, coconut oil or gels that are full of CONES .

*PLEASE STYLE YOUR HAIR AS YOU NORMALLY WOULD WITH STYLING PRODUCTS IN IT'S NATURALLY CURLY STATE BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT*

Evan Joseph Salon is about loving and embracing your hair in all it natural beauty. Follow these Do's and Don'ts in order to get the best results when visiting Evan Joseph Salon for a Curly Cut+Style and/or Color.

There is no need to consult prior to the date of your appointment. A consult is built into your appointnent. If you have any questions regarding your appointment you are welcome to call or email.

For best results go ahead and start using a zero lather cleanser along with a "cone" free conditioner  and styler.
I look forward to meeting you and your gorgeous curls!
